Knowledge Bowl – March 6th!

Attention, Islanders!

It’s time for the 23rd Annual Knowledge Bowl! Think island-style Jeopardy! Fun, laughs, root for your favorite team! Will it be the Lions, 8th and 9th graders, Kiwanis, 10th graders, Rotary, 12th graders, or the Soroptimists? Come enjoy the bake sale by the FHHS PTO while they battle it out! 

Monday, March 6th – doors open at 6:30 ! Tickets at the door-$5 adults, $3 under 18, with 6 and under free – all proceeds go to support your schools!  Fun for the whole family!

 

Time for the Phone-A-Thon! October 17th & 18th!

The San Juan Public Schools Foundation will hold its annual Phone-A-Thon on Monday, October17th, and Tuesday October 18th, from 4 to 8:00 pm. During this time, volunteer students, parents, faculty and members of the community will be calling to ask for your support.

CALLERS ARE NEEDED! If you would like to volunteer at the Phone-A-Thon, please call Nancy at 317-1755 for information.

The Foundation is a group of volunteer parents, educators, business leaders, and community sponsors who raise money to make a difference in the classrooms of our school children. They work year-round on projects that put 100% of the proceeds from the Phone-A-Thon, the Knowledge Bowl, the Business Partnership Program and other activities back into the classrooms at our public elementary, middle and high schools.

We hope that the community will respond generously again for our kids. Quality education is everybody’s business.Our schools been recognized in the areas of marine science, robotics, athletics, drama and art, through awards, competitions and highly acclaimed performances. The students’ continued excellence in AP testing has also been acknowledged.

The new STEM Center will promote science, technology, engineering and math education.

Here comes the Knowledge Bowl!

The 22nd annual Knowledge Bowl will be held on Monday, February 8, at the Community Theatre. Our fabulous Friday Harbor Jazz Band will begin performing at 6:30 and the FH Middle School PTA will be offering baked treats in the lobby before and during the event. There will be raffle items during intermission as well.

The competition begins at 7 PM. Teams consist of the 8 graders, a team of freshmen/sophomores, and one of 11th and 12th graders, going head to head with 4 local service group teams: Kiwanis, Soroptimists, Lions, and Rotary. Groups will match wits to answer tricky questions on a range of topics. The event is emceed this year again by Brent Snow, School Board member, with entertainment during intermission by the Jazz Band.

The Knowledge Bowl is presented each year by the San Juan Public Schools Foundation. Through its main fundraising events, the Phone-a-Thon and Business Partnership Program in the school directory, the Foundation this year has donated over $100,000 to supplement our local public education needs!

Tickets for this fun family event are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids, and are available at the door the night of the event. Come and cheer on your favorite team!

Three student teams (FHMS 8th graders, FHHS freshmen/sophomores and FHHS juniors/seniors) go head to head with four local service group teams: Kiwanis, Soroptimists, Lions, and Rotary. The four-man teams will match wits to answer tricky trivia questions on a broad range of topics.Doors open at 6:30 pm and our fabulous FHHS Jazz Band will begin performing at 6:45. The event is emceed again this year by Brent Snow, SJI School Board Member, with more Jazz Band entertainment at intermission. There will be baked treats offered in the lobby before and during the event.

Since 1994, community support of the SJPSF mission now totals over one million dollars.

The San Juan Public Schools Foundation will hold its annual Phone-A-Thon on Tuesday, October 7th, and Wednesday October 8th, from 4 to 8:00 pm.

During this time, volunteer students, parents, faculty and members of the community will be calling to ask for your support.

The Foundation is a group of volunteer parents, educators, business leaders, and community sponsors who raise money to make a difference in the classrooms of our school children. They work year-round on projects that put 100% of the proceeds from the Phone-A-Thon, the Knowledge Bowl, the Business Partnership Program and other activities back into the classrooms at the public elementary, middle and high schools.

We hope that the community will respond generously again for our kids. Quality education is everybody’s business. US News & World Report has ranked Friday Harbor High School #5 out of 587 high schools in Washington State, and #161 in the nation out of 21,035 high schools from 49 states and the District of Columbia (Nebraska was not included).

Friday Harbor High School has recently been recognized in the areas of marine science, robotics, athletics, drama and art, through awards, competitions and highly acclaimed performances. The students continued excellence in AP testing has also been acknowledged.
